Popular media company BET+ has announced the arrival of Tyler Perry’s upcoming series Divorced Sistas, making it the first original project to commence under Perry’s expanded multi-year partnership with BET Media Group. The soon-to-be-released series is an extension of the filmmaker’s series Sistas, and it will also be created, executive produced, written, and directed by him under his Tyler Perry Studios.
Divorced Sistas follows five close friends—Rasheda, Geneva, Naomi, Tiffany, and Bridgette—as they navigate messy divorces, love, family, and dating. As they experience heartbreak and healing, they lean on each other while confronting challenges within their own friendship, testing their loyalty, love, character, and sisterhood. The major characters will be portrayed by LeToya Luckett, Khadeen Indira, Porcha Coleman, Jennifer Sears, and Briana Price. The series is set to premiere on June 9 on BET and will be available to stream on BET+ the following day.
In a press statement by BET, Scott Mills, the media group’s president and CEO, stated: “Tyler Perry has been the most incredible partner to BET – delivering record-breaking hits and top series year after year. And now, we eagerly await the arrival of Tyler’s newest series, Divorced Sistas, a brilliant expansion of the ‘Sistas’ universe that, for years, has been the most-watched series among Black viewers across television.” Judging by the success of Sistas and the spinoff series Zatima, it is certain that Divorced Sistas will be a success among its audience.
This year, the Sistas creator doesn’t seem to be slowing down, as his other works, such as She the People, a comedy series; Straw, a drama feature starring Taraji P. Henson, which is set to start streaming on Netflix on June 6; Madea’s Destination Wedding, a film in the Madea universe; and the faith-based film R&B, are set to be released between this year and next. As the release date of Divorce Sistas draws near, it is clear that Perry’s well of creativity isn’t drying up anytime soon.
