Willow Smith, Teyana Taylor, Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi, and John Boyega have been announced as part of the cast for Slime, the upcoming animated feature from Sundance prize-winning animator-director Jeron Braxton. Smith will voice the lead character, Muna, while Mescudi takes on the role of Glenn, a lab worker. The roles of Taylor and Boyega have yet to be revealed. Additional cast members include Anna Sawai and John Cho.

While speaking about the film with Deadline, Braxton said, “I’m extremely excited to bring Slime to life and super appreciative to everyone around me who helped make this possible. Animation has always been an opportunity for me to shift perspective on issues affecting Americans and more explicitly the black diaspora, and now we can use the genre of horror and cutting-edge technology to create an insane evolution for the medium.”

Set in a too-near future, Slime follows Muna (Smith), an optimistic but broke young woman who signs up for a paid clinical trial, only to be injected with a mysterious creature’s slime that unleashes destructive powers she can’t control. On the run, she kidnaps Glenn (Mescudi), the lab worker who injected her, and the two set out on a perilous odyssey through a crumbling dystopian world in search of refuge and a cure. But as the clock runs out, is Muna transforming into humanity’s worst nightmare or its last, unlikely savior?

Set to feature an original soundtrack and score by Kid Cudi, the film is described “as an anime-inspired pre-apocalyptic sci-fi monster flick with retro video-game aesthetics.” The script is written by Brian Ash, best known for his work on The Bondoocks. Hammerstone Studios is financing the project with Script 2 Screen and producing alongside Mad Solar and Capstone Pictures. Producers include Alex Lebovici, Kudi, Karina Manashil, Smith, and Aaron Bergman.

Ibrahim Mohammed, Chase Vergari, Craig Peck, Dennis Cummings, Brian Ash, Michael Learner, Jon Oakes, Christian Mercuri, Courtney Chenn, Waylen Lin and Alex Kaplunov are serving as executive producers. Folks VFX is providing animation services. As voice recording gets underway, anticipation is already building worldwide thanks to the film’s stellar cast and distinctive storyline. Fans are hoping it not only meets expectations but surpasses them, and perhaps even sets new records.
