Legendary comedian, actor, and filmmaker, Eddie Murphy is set to release his documentary Being Eddie on Netflix on November 12, 2025. The documentary chronicles the Oscar-nominated actor’s rise from teen comedian to Saturday Night Live breakout and stand-up genius to box-office king. In this film, Murphy opens up his home and dives deep into his impressive career of nearly 50 years and counting. While speaking about the documentary, director and two-time Oscar winner Angus Wall (The Social Network, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) shared, “There is no one else like him. Nobody. He’s been famous longer than just about anyone alive, and he’s never lost who he is. He has survived it all with grace. How did he do that? What guides him? We chase all of these questions with him.”

In the documentary, Murphy discusses entertaining three generations of fans with a filmography that spans comedy, action, drama, animation, musicals, and family fare. “Fewer still have been an A-list celebrity for over four decades, and never succumbed to its darker side. Murphy’s unusual combination of explosive charisma, focused ambition, raw talent and deep-set circumspection puts him in a league of his own,” the synopsis reads. “For the first time ever, Murphy invites the public into his home to revisit his breathtaking body of work, all the while revealing the dazzling interior life that has long driven — and grounded — this once-in-a-century star.”

Joining Murphy in the documentary are Pete Davidson — who recently starred alongside him in Netflix’s comedic heist film The Pickup — as well as Jerry Seinfeld, Arsenio Hall, Brian Grazer, Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle, Jamie Foxx, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Jerry Bruckheimer, John Landis, Kenan Thompson, Kevin Hart, Michael Che, Ruth Carter, Tracee Ellis Ross, and Tracy Morgan. Being Eddie is directed by Angus Wall and produced by John Davis, John Fox, Charisse Hewitt-Webster, Terry Leonard, and Kent Kubena.
