A Photobook About Detty December

At Unruly, we’ve captured the glitz, chaos, and unshakable rhythm of Lagos in December  that thrives with both energy and soul. This photo book is a love letter to the lifestyle, creativity, and unmatched vibrancy that makes Lagos the heartbeat of the holidays. Every image is a doorway into the spirit of the season, a front-row seat to the pulsating nightlife, the fashion, and the raw joy that radiates from every corner. From rooftop concerts to clubhouses, and bustling music sets to intimate moments, this collection invites you to feel the city's Afro-party theme, not just see it. Journey through the celebration of black culture, global influence, and the sheer brilliance that Lagos brings to the world stage. And the best part? This is only the beginning. Welcome to Unruly’s Detty December Chronicles. Keep watching, because there’s so much more to come.

Daniel Obasi’s work has always lived at the intersection of beauty, emotion, and cultural memory — a quiet force reshaping how Nigerian stories are seen and remembered.

This edition spotlights Daniel Obasi through the cover story "The Quiet Power of Storytelling", an intimate portrait of an artist whose work has helped define a new era of Nigerian visual culture. A stylist, photographer, art director, and founder of AMAH Studios, Obasi emerged from the university halls of UNILAG with an imagination shaped by books, poetry, and a vivid internal world. What began as sketches, phone photography, and self-portraits has evolved into a globally recognised body of work, with collaborations spanning Orange Culture, Beyonce’s Black Is King, and features in Vogue Italia, Dazed, and The New York Times.

In his interview, Obasi reflects on how feeling guides his images, why archiving is an act of resistance, and how connection — not trend — drives his creative decisions. He speaks about the challenges of working in a fast-moving Lagos industry, the importance of collaboration, and his mission to build AMAH Studios into a cultural ecosystem where young creatives can experiment freely. For Obasi, storytelling is not just about fashion or photography; it’s about documenting the present, honouring history, and creating a visual language that future generations can return to. This cover captures an artist in transition — calm, intentional, and quietly shaping the way Africa is seen.

VOLUME 2: IN THE MAKING

In the Making is a study of how fashion comes to life in Lagos — the process, the labour, and the creative rhythm behind the clothes we celebrate. This volume turns the spotlight toward the makers: the ideas born in small studios, the experiments shaped by the city’s chaos, and the quiet work that happens long before a garment reaches the world.Lagos isn’t just the backdrop; it’s the collaborator — fast, unpredictable, demanding, and endlessly inspiring. Through imagery and cultural reflection, this photobook captures a fashion ecosystem in motion, revealing what it means to create in a city that is constantly reinventing itself. This is Lagos fashion, not as performance — but as process.
In the making.
