The cease and desist was issued by Coachella's Parent Company - AEG
According to an exclusive report from Variety, entertainment presenter Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) has taken legal action against a fan who shared a video of Frank Ocean's recent Coachella set. The issue arose when a Los Angeles-based filmmaker, Brian Kinnes, compiled videos from fans who attended the music festival and created an 80-minute video of the artist's set. AEG launched a copyright strike to take down the fan-made video. However, Kinnes shared his work through Dropbox and Google Drive, allowing fans to continue enjoying the video. Despite AEG's efforts to stop the video's circulation, it has been re-uploaded to various platforms by a large group of people who downloaded the compilation.
The Kinnes spent over 80 hours condensing 150 source videos, which were provided by 300 people, into an extensive video. Although he downloaded 450 videos, Kinnes stated that he has no intention of making any money from his work. He argued that he only "combined what's already publicly available" and called AEG's claims "frivolous and almost completely baseless." Furthermore, he asserted, "The video is going to be online forever," as it has been shared by a significant number of people who have uploaded it to various platforms.
