Jean Paul Gaultier and Burna Boy Unite for Stylish Eyewear CollaborationSubheadline: The Nigerian artist adds his touch to two iconic 1990s designs, infusing them with heart-shaped details and red lenses.
French fashion house Jean Paul Gaultier has teamed up with Nigerian singer Burna Boy to create a captivating eyewear collection. Burna Boy had the opportunity to select two archival styles from the 1990s, which have now been reimagined with a contemporary twist. The limited-edition sunglasses pay homage to Burna Boy's Grammy-winning album, Love, Damini, featuring eye-catching heart-shaped accents, vibrant red lenses, and trendy oval-shaped frames. With four colorway options available, these sunglasses perfectly complement a bucket hat, oversized shirt, or acid-wash jeans.
This collaboration marks Burna Boy's first venture into the world of designer collaborations, as confirmed by JPG. The anticipation for this release has been building, starting with a pre-party at Jean Paul Gaultier's Parisian headquarters on May 20, prior to Burna Boy's concert at La Défense arena, which drew a crowd of 40,000 fans.
To capture the essence of the '90s aesthetic, the duo enlisted the talents of London-based photographer Marcin Kempski, creating a campaign reminiscent of retro music videos. The set, masterfully designed by Daughter of Lama, showcases colorful graffiti and a mini concrete jungle. Naturally, Burna Boy steals the spotlight, adorned in a bedazzled red suit, chunky jewelry, and the new eyewear.
This collaboration comes as no surprise, as Jean Paul Gaultier's creative director, Florence Tétier, has been actively seeking high-profile collaborations to generate excitement. The fashion house recently partnered with American rapper Lil Nas X and featured reality star-turned-billionaire beauty mogul Kylie Jenner in a campaign. Additionally, they have co-designed pieces with brands such as Ottolinger and Melissa. Collaborations truly amplify creativity.
The Jean Paul Gaultier x Burna Boy eyewear collection will range in price from $484 to $592, according to WWD. These stylish sunglasses will be available at select specialty stores. Customers can also find the collection on the official Jean Paul Gaultier website.
